Spring Is Finally Here!
Boy, I just don't know where time goes! We have been enjoying our days here in quiet-small-town Utah. We've been working like crazy in our orchard in order to do the pruning before the blossoms came on. The apricots were a vision of soft pink and now the cherries are brilliant white and the peaches a dark pink. The trees are incredible. In the last few days the apple and pear have been leafing out and the spring colors and amazing. I have to confess though, as much as I am enjoying the colors, they are made EVEN better by visions of apricot jam, canned peaches, pear honey and apple jelly. MMmmm. I can't wait! The tulips are also coming up by the dozens along with irises and violets and daffodils and others I don't recognize. It is so much fun watching these old fashioned flower beds coming into bloom. There is a lot of work to be done though since its been neglected for a few years. I am digging out grasses and weeks from some of the beds that have disappeared. I think I will put in new old fashioned flowers and ground covers to keep this old place looking like a garden from a yesterday. Ammon loves to be outside working with me. He uses my little spade to poke at the dirt and drop in my garbage can full of weeds. Yesterday he was pulling out the clumps of grass and depositing them in Jon's lap. The other thing Ammon loves to do is explore his world through the medium of taste. Yep. That means he has been chewing on pine cones, last years apricot pits, and any dirt clump that looks particularly appetizing. How one kid can eat so much dirt, I just don't know! I gave him some apple the other day from my lunch and he chewed it up a bit before rolling it in the dirt and then really eating it. It looked like it had been dusted liberally with cinnamon. Weird thing is... he seemed to like it better that way. The other thing he likes to do is mutilate and decapitate my freshly planted pansies and walk all over where I have planted hollyhocks and four o'clocks. I hope he hasn't churned things up too much. But it is all worth it. We spend hours out there waving at everyone that goes past and talking to each other.
Ammon is leaning to bark like a dog. It is so cute when he sees a dog and starts making little noises like what he thinks they say.
Jon is still working hard. He has switched his schedule so that he gets every other Friday off so we can go do fun things this summer. Mostly we go to the temple, but with warmer weather ahead, we plan to do a lot of camping.
As for me, I mostly try to keep up with the house in between chasing Ammon and Jon (JK!) and spending every minute I can outside. I am enjoying YW and the getting some sewing projects done. My most recent was an Easter dress. Fun and a learning experience.
I'll post pictures when I finally figure out how to from the Mac. I'm still learning my way around.
